About Pecan Ridge Outdoors Pecan Ridge Outdoors sits amid East Texas hardwood near Scurry, offering members a private, multi-use ranch built around shooting, fishing, and managed bird hunting, with an emphasis on uncrowded, distraction-free outdoor time. The property runs dawn to dusk year-round across three lakes, multiple firearm ranges, and skeet fields, with the underlying goal of giving visitors room to train, cast, or shoot without crowding. The ranch operates on a membership model, with annual access starting at $240. For shooters, the facility includes a covered pistol range with user-customizable lanes at 3, 7, 15, and 25 yards that accommodates up to 16 shooters; a 160-yard covered precision rifle range intended for slow, methodical dialing-in; and a 45-yard carbine range enclosed on both sides that supports movement drills and serves as the designated rapid-fire bay for legally owned full-autos and short-barreled rifles with proper ATF paperwork. Clay shooters use a self-service covered house with three machines and a stocked closet, accessed by member code. All ranges require users to police their brass and target trash afterward. Anglers have shoreline access to a seven-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass and crappie, with visitors also reporting catches of catfish and bluegill. Hunters and dog trainers can work dogs across the grounds and in the water, though guided bird hunting for waterfowl and dove is not bundled into standard membership and must be scheduled separately. The property also hosts occasional open community events - tower hunts with raffles and lunch - and has supported group firearm safety instruction for organizations, creating an approachable entry point for newcomers and a reliable training ground for regulars. Visitors frequently highlight the atmosphere as family-friendly, safe, and professionally run, with recurring praise for the staff’s hands-on hospitality, whether that means setting up fishing poles, offering dog-training guidance, or providing patient firearm instruction to beginners. The rural setting appeals to those seeking an uncrowded outdoor space within a short drive, with one member noting the property is reachable in under thirty minutes from their home. The experience is not without friction. One member reports that the gate combination is rarely updated, the lock hangs and is difficult to operate, and summer overgrowth of milkweed and cockleburs can make it hard to find clear ground for dog training. These operational details suggest that while the amenities are robust and the hospitality warmly praised, routine maintenance and access management occasionally lag behind the otherwise polished experience. Prospective members should note that while the ranch emphasizes a self-service model on the ranges and clays, the hunting program operates under a separate booking system rather than standard membership privileges.
